National School of Drama has been organizing “Bharath Rangmahotsav”, an international theatre festival for the past twelve years in New Delhi. In this festival plays are selected from both national and international theatre groups. This is one of the significant theatre festivals in Asia. To make this event more eminent, for the past five year National School of Drama has been organising a parallel theatre festival in another state other than Delhi. About twenty plays will be staged in this festival.
This year 2011 Parallel Festival BRM 13 is organized by National School of Drama in collaboration with Department Of Art and Culture, TamilNadu, from Jan 11th to 20th in Chennai Museum Theatre and Sir Mutha Venkata Subbarao Concert Hall (Lady Andal). Two performances will be staged in one evening, thus nineteen plays will be staged in the whole festival. Every evening at 6.00pm first performance will be staged in Museum Theatre and the second will be in Sir Mutha Venkata Subbarao Concert Hall (Lady Andal). The next day morning 10.30am both performed group and the director will be meeting the audience for an open interaction. This director meet will be conducted by Mr. Sadanand Menon and Mr. Pralayan. In addition to this there will be an exhibition on “Theatre” in this festival. There are eight international plays from France, Iran, China, Korea, Argentina, England, Poland, Nepal and eleven Indian plays will be participating in this festival. We have invited students and Theatre practioners and all who are interested in theatre for the very first International theatre festival organized by National School of Drama in Chennai.
This festival will give a clear knowledge of contemporary Indian theatre and new innovations in world theatre which is very necessary for Tamil theatre.
