The 8th Chennai International Film Festival concluded Thursday ,23rd Dec, evening in a grand way with active participation from kollywood and presence of legends like Balu Mahendra and Aparna Sen.
D. Napoleon , Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment govt of India was the chief guest for the closing ceremony held at The woodlands theatre.
The closing ceremony of the fest witnessed an award ceremony that was attended by Priyadarshan, Lisi Priyadarshan, BhagyaRaj, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Mohan, S.V Sekhar, Parthibhan , among others.
There was a musical feast by Sreenivas and Swetha mohan.
The festival, organized by the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation(ICAF), included 151 feature films, in three sections; World movies, Indian panorama and Tamil films competition.
The awards announced at the closing event were:
Best Independent Tamil feature Film: “Ore Iravu” directed by K Harisankar
The best actor in Tamil R.Parthipan for “Ayirathil Oruvan”
The best Director in Tamil Parabhu Solomon for Mynaa
The second best film in Tamil “Kalavaani” directed by Sarkunam
The Best Tamil Film “Angaditheru” directed by Vasanthabalan
And there was a special award for the passionate film buff. This is a web based award given to the person who watches the maximum number of films at CIFF ’10 and the award winner is Dr.Varun Kumar from Velachery.
The ceremony was followed by the screening of director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Biutiful.
